Andalucia Hoping To Open Beaches This Summer

  • May 11 2020

Have you been dreaming about where you’d like to go on holiday when lockdown is lifted and we’re allowed to travel again? If so, you’re certainly not alone, with millions of people no doubt making lists of the places they’d like to explore once we’re able to move around a bit more freely.

If jetting off to Spain is on your list, then you could be pleased to know that the Andalucian vice president and minister of tourism Juan Marin recently stated that he is hopeful that people will be able to enjoy the region’s stunning beaches over the summer. The Olive Press reported on a video conference that Mr Marin participated in with the Andalucian Council Chambers of Commerce recently, during which he asserted that it’s “very likely” that the beaches in Andalucia will open this summer.

Juanma Moreno, president of the Juanta de Andalucia, meanwhile, told the meeting that while beaches could open, it would likely be with “limitations”. This could involve restricting the number of people who can be at the beach at any one time, he explained. However, Mr Marin added that no decisions would be rushed and urged everyone to be patient. Andalucia is preparing to come out of lockdown ahead of the rest of Spain, although the process will take time and Mr Marin added that, when it comes to the region’s beaches and tourism, the health and safety of people would come first.

While you’re not going to be able to book anything for the foreseeable future, there’s no harm in doing some research on holiday apartments in Spain while you’re in lockdown. After all, finding the perfect property to book for you and your family or friends once restrictions are relaxed could be a nice treat to look forward to.

In fact, it seems that many Brits may already be dreaming of jetting off to a Spanish resort after a survey by UAE property portal Bayut revealed that Spain was the second most popular holiday spot that Brits were keen to visit after lockdown, with only a staycation in the UK proving more popular. Hello! Magazine shared the findings of the survey, which revealed that while 36 per cent of Brits are dreaming of a holiday on home soil, 20 per cent said they’d still like to visit Spain’s beaches once travel is allowed again.

Completing the top five travel destinations for post-lockdown trips in the survey were America (with 11 per cent keen to travel here), Italy and Greece, popular among eight per cent and seven per cent of those questioned respectively. But while many people are thinking of escapes once the restrictions start to be relaxed, the first activity most Brits want to do is eat out at a nice restaurant. Some 41 per cent of those who participated in the survey said that this is what they’re looking forward to most. This was closely followed by having a pint in the pub, with 36 per cent keen on this idea, and 32 per cent who said they couldn’t wait to hit the shops and browse the sales.
