Predicted Travel Trends For The Upcoming Year

  • May 18 2021

It is fair to say that travelling and exploring new countries is one thing that people from all walks of life tend to look forward to throughout the year and many will countdown for months to the different holidays that they have planned. Whilst travel used to be considered a luxury, these days, it is a part of daily life and a huge percentage of people will have at least one holiday a year, some will even have two or three.

Each year, like all other industries, there are clear trends in travel and tourism, and some types of holidays, particular destinations and accommodation options will be much more popular than others. If you own a holiday rental then it goes without saying that being aware of the predicted travel trends is really beneficial and they can help you to plan for the year ahead. So, below we have looked into what the next year is expected to look like travel-wise.

‘Staycations’

Since 2020, there has been an increase in staycations and many have been booking holidays in destinations that they’re able to drive to. It is thought that this trend will continue throughout 2021 and even into 2022, and a huge percentage of people will plan lots of smaller local getaways throughout the upcoming year. Many are predicting that booking flights for foreign holidays will be replaced with exploring areas that are a little bit closer to home.

Big group holidays

As we head into summer 2021 and beyond, it is predicted that we will see an increase in big group holiday. Many will want to get away with friends to reconnect and spend some much-needed time together. As well as seeing big groups of friends book holidays, it is thought that multi-generational holidays will be very popular too and people will be booking trips with their parents, children and maybe even grandchildren too.

Private holiday rentals

This trend has been around for a few years now and it definitely isn’t going anywhere. The holiday rental market is booming and there is such a vast range of properties for holidaymakers to choose from, so people will book private rentals for all of their getaways. Many will be swapping traditional ‘package holidays’ for DIY alternatives and whether they’re booking a week somewhere or just a short weekend break, lots of people will turn to a holiday rental.

Bucket list trips

Over the last year, many have been dreaming about once-in-a-lifetime holidays they’d love to go on, so towards the end of 2021 and into 2022, it is predicted that we will see an increase of people booking trips that tick things off their bucket list. With lots of people being unable to go on holiday throughout 2020, they have saved their money and experts think that they will then spend their savings on big holidays that they have always dreamed of.

Off the beaten track holidays

On the contrary to the bucket list trips above, it is thought that lots of people will also be wanting to get off the beaten track this upcoming year and explore somewhere new. Instead of booking getaways to big cities and tourist hot spots, we can expect to see people visiting places they’ve never been to or even heard of before. With the increase in people shopping local, it is predicted that holidaymakers will avoid big chains when they’re on holiday too.

Preparing your holiday rental for the upcoming year

All in all, it is fair to say that if things go as predicted, it will be a very good year for anyone who owns a holiday rental, whether this is a holiday cottage in the UK, a holiday home in Europe or a holiday villa further afield. Whilst these travel trends aren’t set in stone and things are subject to change, it is worthwhile using them to help you prepare for what the next year might bring and you can ensure that your holiday rental is ready for the potential influx of bookings.
