Any of us who love nothing more than booking a stay in holiday rentals and exploring new destinations all over the world probably have a travelling bucket list. This is a list of all the activities we want to do or places we want to see at least once in our lives.
Good Housekeeping recently compiled its own suggestions for must-have travel experiences in Europe, so you might want to add a few of these to the list.

There are several places and experiences in France that pop up in the magazine’s suggestions, including exploring Bordeaux. This is well-known for being wine country and this is, of course, what the publication suggests you travel for. As well as sipping on some delicious tipples at the various vineyards, you can also explore picturesque villages and view fairytale chateaux.
Another French destination to make the list is Carcassonne. This medieval city, with its stunning castle, is a delightful place to explore.
As the publication points out, Chateau Comtal is said to have been the inspiration behind Disney’s depiction of the castle in Sleeping Beauty.
If you’re interested in history, then this is a wonderful choice, with the 12th century castle and inner ramparts of the citadel still intact and exciting to explore.
Although we’re in the midst of summer holiday season, you might be thinking further ahead in which case consider booking a ride on Switzerland’s Glacier Express.
This is an incredible train journey through snow-capped mountains and pine forests that will also take you across some rather spectacular bridges. The views are stunning and there’s no better way to see this winter wonderland if you’re holidaying in the country in the colder months of the year.
There are also some ideas that you might want to add to your list from the results of the 2020 TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards.
Although these experiences were based on pre-pandemic travel experiences, that doesn’t mean it’s not worth considering them.
The second-best experience in the world, for instance, was named as a pizza and gelato cooking class in Florence, Italy. In third place on that list was a luxury open-air boat canal cruise around Amsterdam for a small group.
A half-day walking tour around the German capital came in at fourth place, while a day trip from Dublin into Northern Ireland, including a visit to the Giant’s Causeway, was named as the fifth best travel experience.
Only the top spot wasn’t claimed by an option in Europe, with a Red Dunes camel safari and BBQ in Dubai taking first place.
There are numerous amazing experiences to be had in Italy, it seems. Seeing Florence’s skyline from Piazzale Michelangelo was another of the bucket list items shared by Good Housekeeping, as was enjoying a hidden corner of Venice where you can escape the crowds of tourists.
Ponte de Chiodo and the staircase at Scala Contarini del Bovolo were two of the spots the publication suggested if you want a bit of peace and quiet while you’re exploring the famous and much-loved city.
